Safeway.bomb

Online grocery delivery seems like such a great idea. But why can't anyone seem to make it work?

We live a couple of miles from the nearest grocery store and have two young children, so grocery delivery seems like a perfect fit for us. We can order our groceries late at night when the kids are asleep, without having to shlep to the store, and get them delivered the next day, at a convenient time. But our experiences with Safeway.com have been very disappointing.

With one recent order, the driver called four times for directions. Admittedly, our house is hard to find. But it seemed that rather than writing down the directions she got on the first call, she simply called after each turn to find out the next step in the directions. The final call was the best, though:
Safeway Driver: "Am I outside your house?"
Me: "Uh, I don't know -- I can't see through the fence. Do you see our house number on the fence?"
Safeway Driver: "Can you come outside and see if I'm at your house?"
Me: "You're kidding, right?"
